Discover the Most Important Artifacts of Anatolia's Historical Past Here.
The Museum of Anatolian Civilizations houses the most significant artifacts from the ancient civilizations of Anatolia, excavated through archaeological digs within Turkey's borders. As one of Turkey's premier museums, it won the European Museum of the Year Award in 1997. To understand Anatolia and the mosaic it created, we follow the traces of the civilizations that once lived on these lands.

We meet our Professional Tour Guide at the entrance gate of the museum, who will bridge the gap between us and the ancient civilizations of Anatolia.

After completing our museum ticketing and entry procedures, we learn about the history of the Mahmut Paşa Bedesten, which hosted the museum and was one of Ankara's most important commercial structures during the Ottoman period, as well as the artifacts in the museum's garden. Then, we enter the museum.

The Museum of Anatolian Civilizations offers a chronological exhibition. We begin our journey from the first inhabitants of Anatolia to the present. First, we explore the prehistoric settlements, their living standards, and the cultures they created, and see artifacts brought from Catalhoyuk, the world's first settlement. The section displaying artifacts from Catalhoyuk is one of the museum's most important areas.

After this, we proceed to the Bronze Age section and start viewing the most important artifacts from this period.

In the Assyrian Trade Colonies Age section, we learn about human beings' production, the beginnings of trade, and the spread of this activity. We explore the invention of writing and examine clay tablets.

Following this, we visit the most important artifacts of the Hittite period, including the Inandık Vase, brought from Inandık Höyük, wooden and bronze items from Gordion, and Urartian artifacts. We then proceed to the Orthostat section located in the central hall of the museum, followed by a visit to the Ankara hall, where we conclude our tour.
