The heart of the Republic of Turkey beats here. Discover it with us.
Anıtkabir, the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey, is a site of great interest for people of all nations, colors, and beliefs. Beyond being Atatürk’s final resting place, it is also one of the most significant architectural works of Turkey's Second National Architecture Period. Every corner of Anıtkabir holds symbolic meaning and represents a mosaic of Anatolian cultural heritage.
We begin our tour by meeting our Professional Tourist Guide at the Independence Tower, located at the entrance of the Lion Road. The guide will introduce us to Anıtkabir, helping us understand both Atatürk and the architectural details of the mausoleum.
After visiting the Peace Park, Independence Tower, and Freedom Tower, we proceed through the Lion Road, one of the most iconic areas of Anıtkabir, where state ceremonies begin. Along the way, we learn the story behind the lion statues and reach the Ceremonial Plaza.
At the plaza, we visit the Victory Tower, the tomb of İsmet İnönü, Peace Tower, and 23th April Tower, before hearing the fascinating story of how the Anıtkabir Flagpole was brought to this location.
At this point, we witness the changing of the guard, one of the most grand and captivating ceremonies in the world.
Next, we ascend to the Mausoleum to see Atatürk’s sarcophagus, made of a single marble slab weighing 40 tons, and explore the interior of the monument. From there, we move on to the Atatürk and War of Independence Museum. Our museum visit begins with a display of Atatürk’s personal belongings and the special gifts he received. We then learn the story behind the wax statue of Atatürk, considered the closest likeness to him, and proceed to the panoramic sections of the museum. Here, we explore the details of the wars Atatürk commanded and view the paintings in the gallery section. Additionally, we watch a live broadcast of Atatürk's actual burial chamber on a screen outside the galleries.
We also see the Nobel Prize in Chemistry donated by Aziz Sancar to Atatürk and the Turkish Nation, before heading to Atatürk's Library. Along the way, we pass a wax statue of Atatürk’s beloved dog, Fox, and other historical displays. We then view Atatürk’s books, complete with his handwritten notes, and conclude our tour at the souvenir shop, where visitors can purchase memorabilia related to Anıtkabir and Atatürk.
OTHER INFO
Anıtkabir is the official ceremony site of the Republic of Turkey. Foreign dignitaries visiting Ankara for diplomatic meetings abroad begin their official program with a ceremony at Anıtkabir. Official ceremonies are not always announced to the public in advance, and various levels of state ceremonies may take place during your tour. In some cases, certain sections of Anıtkabir may be closed to visitors during these ceremonies. If there is a possibility that the official program will take place, there may be delays during the tour. Our agency cannot be held responsible for any changes made by the official authorities to the tour schedule.
